From the balcony you see the Vltava, Prague Castle, and the Old Town rooftops. The tour continues into the Library Hall, a Baroque chamber with ceiling frescoes and floor-to-ceiling walnut shelving. The entire visit lasts approximately 45 minutes. All sales are final. The one exception: in the rare event we are unable to secure your tickets from the operator, a full refund is issued within 24 hours.
Astronomical Tower and Meridian Hall
The Astronomical Tower rises above the Klementinum courtyard. You climba spiral staircase of wooden steps, pausing at the Meridian Hall on the first landing. A brass line set into the floor marks true north-south; a small aperture in the southern wall admits a shaft of sunlight at solar noon. Jesuit astronomers used this setup from to record daily observations, contributing to Prague's meteorological record. The walls display antique instruments—sextants, quadrants, and a transit telescope. Your guide explains the method: as the sun's image crossed the meridian line, the observer noted the exact time on a regulator clock, synchronizing Prague Mean Time. The hall retains its original oak panelling and the aperture remains open, so on sunny days you can watch the light trace the meridian yourself.
Library Hall
After descending from the tower, the tour enters the Library Hall. The room measures and the barrel-vaulted ceiling carries frescoes depicting the Temple of Wisdom and allegorical figures of the arts and sciences. Walnut bookcases line every wall, rising two storeys to meet the vault. The collection holds tens of thousands volumes, many bound in vellum with gilt spines. Globes—celestial and terrestrial—stand on pedestals between the cases. The parquet floor is geometric marquetry in oak and walnut. Natural light enters through tall windows on the eastern wall; the operator prohibits flash photography to protect the pigments and bindings. You spend approximately ten minutes in the hall while the guide highlights key works and explains the Jesuit scholarly tradition that shaped the collection.
